Eyes Wide Shut - Abigail Good & Julienne Davis
Quote:Bill, suppose I tell that everything that happened there, the threats, the girl’s warnings, suppose I said all of that was staged. That it was a kind of charade. That it was fake?…to scare the shit out of you to keep you quiet about where you’d been and what you’d seen.

I've got evidence that the woman at the party (Rothschild Mansion) was actually Abigail Good and not Julienne Davis (Mandy, who overdosed and the one Bill attended to).

Check out the pictures.

A rare shot of underneath the mask and Ziegler too!

She is wearing the correct mask (ostrich feather) and Ziegler (Pollock) is standing behind them.

The woman in the b&w photo imo, looks nothing like Julienne Davis who we see earlier in the film and the woman that Bill assists in Zielger's bathroom.

Yes...we might've guessed that Kubrick would pull a stunt like this...but I think it is now busted. Now whether Abigail was used to represent Mandy (a body double for these scenes) is another issue. Interesting though that we're led to believe that the distressed girl at the mansion is Mandy.

So Ziegler may well have been telling the truth about the 'charade' aspect with this girl 'Abigail'...but not the 'suicided' death of Mandy that followed.

Any thoughts.

I think Rob have already pointed out that the the mystery woman at the party was only a dream manifestation of Mandy, hence the different looks and now as you've clarified, different actors.

The image of Pollack wearing a mask on the other hand is quite a discovery, if it really is him, it's hard to tell.
But if it is Pollack why is he playing the man that took the mystery woman away from Cruise rather than the man with the woman on the balcony that were looking down at him which most people have always assumed were Pollack.
So if the man at the balcony isn't Pollack, then who is it?.

It is hard to tell that that's Pollack to be honest. Did the article you got this from name him as Pollack roach?

search movie geek united julienne davis

it's been a while since I've listened, I seem to remember it was different actors playing the same character, as above I can't say for sure it's a dream sequence but makes sense, the interview will hopefully explain more, as an aside it's a good link for other interviews, search for kubrick for many others and of the dozen or so I've listened to they have (for what they are) been excellent.

The dude with the mask must be Leon Vitali.

I only gave the man a cursory look and thought he looked something like Pollock...he could be Vitali though...before he changed into his red outfit.

RE: Eyes Wide Shut - Abigail Good & Julienne Davis
So, the distressed girl at the mansion, wearing the ostrich-feathers-mask, that warns Bill, is only in Bill's imagination, right?
I gathered that much from the simple facts that:

1. Bill walks in.
2. She was busy facing the other way in the séance circle
3. A minute later the red-cloaked man bangs his staff and sends her off.
4. She has no way of knowing who belongs and who doesn't, let alone who is under which mask.

Am I close?

RE: Eyes Wide Shut - Abigail Good & Julienne Davis
So I FINALLY got around to watching this film, and I'm having trouble arranging my thoughts, but a few lines struck me as odd, and I forgot most of them, but whenever I watch the film again I'll remember the lines. But one line that definitely struck me as odd is when Bill is at Ziegler's party, and tells the two women "to be continued" - considering the events that follow, what could this mean? Is the party "to be continued" at Somerton?

And another thing that I'd like to mention is I feel that this film takes a lot of inspiration from David Lynch. I know it's odd to say that considering how Kubrick was around for around 30 years before Lynch entered the game, but considering how The Shining was openly inspired by Eraserhead, perhaps Eyes Wide Shut could take some influence from Twin Peaks or Blue Velvet. I wouldn't be sure of it or anything, but it has a Lynch-like quality that I don't get nearly as much of with Kubrick's other films.

Interesting that you should mention Lynch in respect of this film.

A few years ago...I listed Eyes Wide Shut (over at Twin Peaks Gazette) as the film that I would have liked to have seen Lynch direct...it would've been perfect fodder for him. It's the only Kubrick film that I would've preferred for David to direct...'dreams' being a huge Lynch motif. Note...this is not saying that Stanley did a poor job, EWS is one of his greatest efforts. I just think Lynch handles the 'dream world' more readily and more effectively.

Anyway...
Both party scenes imo....seem to have the same people and a very similar time duration too...they do seem to mirror each other.

At the first party he enters and immediately meets Ziegler & wife. (later...from where the rainbow ends dialogue...he then climbs the stairs to Ziegler/rainbow)

(from under/over Rainbow Fashions to) The Somerton party he enters and immediately sees Ziegler and wife (on the balcony...up the stairs again! & where the rainbow ends).

I've always thought that this was the same girl in both scenes...and I'd actually stake money on this claim!!!

I'm even more convinced now.

That aside...I think I've got a huge crush on Nuala Windsor...she gives me the horn...lol. I actually prefer the shot where she is wearing clothes.
